The joke did not sit well with Smith and resulted in him storming the stage and slapping the comedian. This immediately created buzz all over the internet. The Academy’s Board of Governors has since decided that Smith is not permitted to attend the ceremony for the next 10 years. Smith’s career has been tarnished over one impulsive decision he made at an awards show. Even though he issued an apology to Rock following the incident, his career has still taken a hit. Netflix has stepped back from further developing a new film Smith was set to star in. In addition to this, another film of his, the third installment of the “Bad Boys” franchise, has been put on pause.
Although Will Smith is a high-profile actor, this should serve as a learning experience for anyone in the professional world.
