Super Bowl LV: A New World of Advertising

Super Bowl LV was one for the books, as this was the first—and hopefully the last—Super Bowl game played during a pandemic.  A number of companies that are synonymous with the Super Bowl (including Coke, Pepsi and Hyundai) have decided to not advertise this year.  Many companies, due to the unforeseen circumstances of the pandemic, are reallocating resources.  Saddest of all, the Budweiser Clydesdales did not make an appearance this year.  Although these classic companies were missed, this is an opportunity for new companies to advertise on the most-watched event of the year.

Here are some companies making their Super Bowl debut:

Vroom, a used-car retailer, highlights how painless it is to shop with Vroom online.

Klarna, a financial services company, features the ever-hilarious Maya Rudolf demonstrating how easy it is to make payments.

Chipotle, the popular restaurant chain, focuses on the environmentally friendly practices used when making its food.

And here are a couple favorites returning to the spotlight:

Cheeto’s ad features Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher and Shaggy as they wonder who ate Kutcher’s Cheetos Crunch Pop Mix.

The Doritos 3D ad features Matthew McConaughey whose “flat” life is changed after trying the world-changing Doritos 3D.

Things are different this year, but in this ever-changing world, it is amazing how an ad can bring everyone together.
