To the Over-thinkers and the Self-Doubters: You’re doing alright

One of my biggest faults as a person is me constantly doubting my talents and abilities. I am never satisfied with my performance and always find ways to blame myself for problems. Although this mindset helps me to constantly better myself, it gets very exhausting. I will always be an over-thinker and self-doubter. But to help manage it, I’ve learned a few lessons to handle my negative tendencies. Here’s some tips for the self-doubters and over-thinkers.

Forgive Yourself

Forgiving yourself is one of the hardest things to do. Everyone has been in situations where they can only blame themselves for their mistakes and errors. It is important to not beat yourself over them. Instead of playing the what if scenarios, learn from your mistakes. Understand that no one is perfect and we are inevitably going to mess up. By being able to forgive yourself, you can move on and focus on the present moment. Mistakes are learning opportunities that promote self-growth.

Have Confidence

It’s very easy to doubt yourself, especially at college. There is a constant pressure of separating yourself from your colleagues. Seeing friends and classmates achieving great milestones makes it easy to doubt your ability. But it is important to not constantly compare yourself to others. There are always various paths to same goal. Additionally, everyone has different skills and abilities. Knowing what your strengths and weakness are helps build confidence. Something I’ve learned to do is realize I’m in control of my own destiny. I am capable of achieving the goals I wish to achieve. Realizing this helped me become a more confident person.

Always Have Fun

No matter where life takes you, always try to make the most of every moment. Life is too short to be caught up on things that take away from your happiness. Everyone gets in a negative mindset at times. But it important to be self-aware of when these moments occur. If something is ever causing you serious stress, take a step away to clear your mind.

College is a critical stage in students’ life. It is important to make the most of the time to guarantee success for the future. However, it is important to remember that college is only for a short phase. For the over-thinkers and self-doubters, college can have its rough times. It’s important to realize that stuff is out of our control sometimes and mistakes will happen. So for the over-thinkers I say this: Life is too complicated to perfect. Always challenge yourself and have faith that it is always going to work out. And by doing so, it helps you get out of your head and focus more on yourself and the moment.
