As the Social Marketing Specialist at QVC, Kelly Reid has come a long way from her days at Temple University. She is now in charge of creating and executing the social media strategy for the QVC brand, vendors, and show host platforms. One of the perks to her job is getting to buy new beauty products, and she especially loves IT Cosmetics and Tarte. When she is not at work, she loves discovering new restaurants and then enjoys spinning to stay in shape. Check out my Q&A with Kelly below!

What attracted you to apply to QVC?

I knew it had a great work culture, and I wanted to work in social media / marketing.

While there is never a “typical day” in any communications job, what are some routine tasks you do weekly?

Daily, I work with vendors to see what new items are coming in that can be good to support socially. From there, I work with the social media manager to leverage content on QVC flagship platforms, and also the talent social team to get show hosts along with products. I brainstorm creative ideas on ways to leverage content and take pictures for social platforms.

What is one of your biggest challenges in your role, and how have you or are you working to overcome it?

The social team here is evolving and changing—- ever since I got hired. I am currently on my 4th role in social, but have fought my way to get to where I am now. We are starting to do REALLY COOL THINGS like get social content on qvc.com and become more relevant to the millennial generation.

What do you look for in an intern?

Someone driven who wants to constantly learn and learn from me. I love being a role model and want to teach people everything I know, just like someone has taught me.

How have past interns stood out to you?

Interns that are always taking notes, looking for more, asking questions, and going above and beyond. Above all of these qualities, I love someone who is generally happy and comes to work excited every time.

What attracted you to a career in advertising and communication?

The many opportunities and different directions that it can take you. The world is your oyster in communications!

What is your favorite form of social media personally and why?

Instagram! It inspires me every single day.

What’s your dream job?

Social media or brand manager. I’d love to own my on marketing agency one day.

What is one thing you wish you knew when you were looking for jobs?

Where I wanted to live. It’s so hard (and scary) being 22 and deciding your future
