When it comes to being productive, it can be frustrating. Sometimes you just can’t find the motivation to steer away from your Netflix addiction or even get out of bed. But being productive is an important part of life, especially if you want to be successful.
How do you find the motivation to be productive? Set goals. Setting goals is the ultimate way to motivate yourself. Setting goals allows you to create a pathway to your future. Now, on to the next question, how do you set goals?
Think of it like an inverted pyramid. On a normal pyramid the top is small and slim, as you go down the pyramid it gets wider. Goals work in the same way in the sense that you have this ultimate goal you want to reach (the top part of the pyramid), and you have all these smaller multiple goals (the wider parts of the pyramid) meant to help you reach your ultimate goal.
To break things down and make it easier here are five steps to set and reach your goals in life.
- Set an Ultimate Goal
What is the goal you are trying to accomplish? This can be as simple as buy a car or pay off your student loans. Create your main goal then allot yourself time to complete it. For example: pay off your student loans in eight years. Setting an ultimate goal is the first step in being successful.
- Create Sub Goals
Now that you have created your ultimate goal, you will need to establish smaller goals to help you achieve your ultimate goals. Some examples of sub goals are: save a hundred dollars each week or pay off interest while in school. Take a pen and paper and make a list of all of the different sub goals that will help you achieve your ultimate goal. After you have a list start assigning those goals in monthly, weekly, and even daily increments. By doing so, you will be able to set a pathway to your ultimate goal.
- Discipline Yourself
The only way you are going to achieve success is if you stick to the path you have created for yourself. You may be tempted to stray, but it is important to remind yourself the benefits of achieving your goals. Say no to the 2 a.m. pizza craving, you will thank yourself later.
- Know that your Goals will Change
Nothing in life is set in stone; this goes for your goals as well. You may have given yourself eight years to pay off your student loans, but you could completely wreck your car and need the money to get a new one. It is life, and when life happens just breathe. It is ok to sit back down and re map your goals, as long as you are still setting and following them!
- Track your Success
Every time you achieve one of your sub goals, reward yourself. This can be by going out to eat or getting that cute top you’ve had your eye on for months. It is essential to track your success and acknowledge it because it will motivate you even more on your pathway to success.
Setting goals and super easy and extremely motivational. All you need is desire, a notebook and a go-getter attitude to achieve your success.
